Hands down best coffee house in Cedar Rapids. Great coffee and other assorted drinks, and the pastries taste like what mom used to make. We haven't tried their lunch specials, but they look great also. The only complaint is that they're not open on Sundays or past 9pm on weeknights.

Working at St Luke's hospital I frequent this shop quite a bit however I don't get to their actual shop, they have a smaller version in the A Ave lobby of the hospital and they provide the perfect drink for whatever time of day my favorite is their cold-pressed toddy a wonderful iced coffee with a huge kick in the winter i go for their "Eye Opener" perfect for those cold winter mornings in the office. They also have an assortment of large muffins cookies and other baked goods. their blueberry muffins are heavenly and the carmel banana bars are soo good.

Brewed Awakenings is a great local coffee shop. It can get quite busy and require a little wait. There are a variety of seating options (couches, various size tables, old theatre seats, etc.) Artwork adorns the walls and is for sale, including t-shirts, earrings, etc. They also offer food over the lunch hour, including organic and locally grown ingredients, and daily specials for soups and sandwiches. Baked goods (scones, muffins, cookies, bars) are available all day.

I live in the Northwest, so it should not come as a great shock to anyone that I am a Starbucks girl through and through. I often scoff at the thought that ANY coffee could compare to my dearly loved Starbucks. So imagine my surprise when my eyes did a little roll towards the back of my head after taking a sip of a latte from Brewed that my boyfriend bought me. He's a big fan of Brewed Awakenings and raves about them constantly. Now I see why. The latte was so wonderful that I had him take me back the next day to get a Snickers Mocha. Yeah, you read right, Snickers Mocha. Uh huh, commence the eye roll. lol Needless to say I am a fan of Brewed and will visit whenever I'm in CR.

I love Brewed Awakenings (especially because I went to Coe, which is right across the street). They are really nice there and willing to work with you if you've got groups who want to meet and talk. I was part of a Kaffee Klatsch for Coe's German club and we never had any problems. I know that there's also a Pagan Discussion who meets there weekly who also have had no problems with the staff. The drinks are always well done, and you've GOT to try the sugar cookies. After one, you will crave them. They are THAT good.

Very cool atmosphere. I love the use of real dishes. Both the food and drinks were pretty good. While not large, there is room for probably 20 people comfortably. As this place is right across from COE college (and a coffee shop), there was a very liberal crowd when I was there. Sadly, all of the conversations were too loud and distracting to attempt any of the work I brought with me.

Love this place. Best coffee in the area. The pastries, cookies, and scones are all hand made. Oh and if you're lucky-try the peanut butter biscotti. You will not regret it at all. The barista are friendly, knowledgeable and will help you out in any way they can. Honestly, the only (possible) complaint would be parking, though I have not personally had problems. Please please please give Brewed Awakenings a try!

A good coffee. Nice selection. Well made. Friendly faces. I stop in here frequently for a good to go snack and coffee

Coe College students are lucky to have this little gem right across the street from campus. As an undergrad, I enjoyed some great class meetings, study sessions, chats over coffee with professors and even some first dates at Brewed. Needless to say, I, like most people who went to Coe, have a lot of great memories here. Location isn't the only reason why this is a popular coffee shop. They always play the best music at Brewed, the service is on-point, and many of their drinks are darn near perfect. Their cold press toddy is one of my all-time favorite iced coffee drinks, and their Don Correlejo (espresso, milk, and Mexican chocolate) is AMAZING and so unique. Both of these are must-tries. Also, their lunches are SO good! They use high quality ingredients and the portions are just right. However, Brewed Awakenings only has a couple of big weaknesses that prevent me from giving it five stars. First of all, the location is very cramped. Seating is extremely limited, it can get really loud, and it is often uncomfortably warm in there. Also, many of their their hot espresso drinks (especially lattes, mochas, and other more indulgent drinks) are weak and super milky. I could never even taste the espresso in these drinks, which is a shame because they're very pricey.

Brewed is wonderful. All of the staff are incredibly friendly and the coffee is always high quality. I also have to mention the sandwiches. The waldorf chicken salad is my favorite.

Took a bit to get the coffee but it was good and the place is cute. Parking is a bit odd, but they have a few spaces. Right across the street from Coe College so it makes for a good meeting place.

I've visited this coffee shop at least six times now and each time I try and get something a little different. They make great coffee and have personable staff. They also play really great music inside. If you are looking for a nice little coffee place to go that has more of a homey feel this is definitely the shop. Everything I have gotten off the coffee menu has been really delicious.

Good food, great coffee, slow service. I love the coffee here, but it always take longer than I think it should. This makes it a perfect for a lazy Saturday, but hard to swing through in the middle of the day for some coffee or a lunch.

Why? Nearly no place to park. Old over used seating. Small & noisy. Over priced for mediocre quality.

Short Version: Fantastic place to walk to if you have the cash to pay typical coffee store prices and have the ability to walk. Parking is kinda a pain, and the prices were on-par with typical coffee shop prices ($5+ per drink-ish), but I love the home-y, small-business feeling that this place has, and they have a huge menu of coffee choices to select from. Long Version: If someone told you to make a home-made version of Starbucks or other chain coffee shops, Brewed Awakenings is about what would come out of it. It's cute. It has its own charm. There's lots of local art by artists on the wall. There are staff-chosen books and games on bookshelves. There are mis-matched chairs and tables that look like they came from thrift stores (but are in decent shape). There are delicious-looking (but clearly home-made) treats available for purchase. There's a neat bin that asks you to leave your dirty dishes or empty bottles/garbage so that they can recycle it for you. All of the small business charm is there, but it's all the types of things you find at a typical cafe. This place did feel cramped when I came. They have three sets of tables and chairs outdoors for outdoor enjoyment. The indoors has couches, lots of tables with two chairs, and some giant wingback chairs for seating. There wasn't a single table available when I was here (aside from outside), and the place was buzzing from activity. I felt constantly in the way while waiting for my drink to be prepared. I'm not sure if I just came during a busy time, but they could definitely use larger real estate. Lots of drink choices to pick from. They have cold drinks, hot drinks, and lots of other types of drinks. This isn't just a standard "here have coffee with cream" place. There are lots of unique, home-made type drinks. Neat combinations. Someone recommended a Don Correlejo. I normally only exclusively drink cold drinks, but this one is a hot drink with espresso and mexican chocolate. It's basically a coffee version of hot cocoa, and it's served at the PERFECT temperature. Warm enough to make your insides feel happy (except it was 90 degrees out today so maybe not the best day to order it) while not so hot as to burn. Seriously perfect, and this is the only hot coffee drink I've tried that I instantly loved. For 5 ounces of coffee, though, the $5+ price tag seems pretty high. The biggest complaint I have, though, is the parking. They do have their own little parking lot, but it's a giant pain in the butt, and for all of the traffic and people they have that come and stay to enjoy their coffee, they need a lot more room. Plus, in order to get out of the parking lot, you have to back out of the entire parking lot - which I could see potentially causing accidents with incoming coffee-goers. Coffee does take a bit to make, so you might be sitting around for a bit, but it's clear that the baristas take a lot of pride in their beverages, so it makes it worth it. As a note, no drive-thru available here. This is definitely a sit-down type of place.

So disappointed. My dirty chai tasted like sugared milk. Neither the espresso or the chai spices could compete with all that sugar and cream. Also tried a monster bar, super super sugary as well. Usually monster treats are hearty with lots of oatmeal and peanut butter, this one was all brown sugar and butter. Yuck. My total was $15 for a large americano, a large dirty chai and a monster bar. Same order costs $11 at my favorite coffee shop. Won't waste my time here again.

It's part of the curriculum of Coe College to have a drink at Brewed at least once a semester. It's not a written requirement, but it's definitely not unusual to see professors bring entire (mostly well-behaved) classes of students in for coffee. There are many people who attend Brewed who aren't Coe students, however. The entire atmosphere of the place is comfortable: there are big, comfy chairs and couches, as well as a nice landing area for people who want to look out onto the street. (Beware during the winter, though, as the windows will fog up completely, giving the shop a sort of effervescent coffee-scented glow.) There is always a nice mix of ages and personage--business executives meeting for lunch, professors chatting about the humanities, students crying into espressos, knitters spinning, new mothers balancing scones and babies on the same knee. The coffee is phenomenal, it's true, but don't forget their awesome lunch specials, served 11-2. My favorite sandwich anywhere, of all time, is the turkey pesto. They make great soups, and the sandwich/soup combo of the day is always appropriate for the weather. There's nothing that their chicken soup can't cure you of, which is useful when you have six papers due in one week. The baristas accomplish being fashionable while still Iowa friendly, a combo I would like to see taught to baristas everywhere.

Very cozy place to sit. There food is so, so but would not eat it again. There coffee is good along with there smoothies. However I would say they are on the pricey side but with the college right there what do you expect.
(4)Paul G.
The couches are comfy, and the don correlejo is one of the best coffee drinks I've ever had---and I say this as a depravedly obsessive caffeine addict. The downside is that it's in Cedar Rapids, also known as the Speed Trap Hell Of The Universe. So this is only my second time here in two years. But I get to be here more often now, because I just bought an extremely fancy radar detector! So, 5-0 po-po, this review, and this yummy coffee, are dedicated to you and your delicious oinky frustration. We're really bacon now!
(5)Jen B.
The only thing keeping my review from 5 stars is the parking. Which is too bad, because otherwise, I absolutely love this place.

Great coffee and lunch spot near Coe College. Quality of food is outstanding and prices are decent. Could use a few more tables and free wi-fi

I hate coffee, and love coffee shops. If you're an anti-corporate coffee type like I am, then Brewed is as good as it gets in CR. I often take my laptop with me to BA and get myself some tea and a sandwich and work there. Seriously a fantastic place! Also, local businesses are hurting in our area! Bring your friends to BA!

I had seen this coffee shop for several years while driving 1st Ave past Coe College. But I didn't take time to stop due to the fact that I assumed it would be of poor quality because students aren't always the best at discerning quality over quantity. But this summer I was taking several classes at Coe and had some time to kill between them. So, instead of heading to the scary Wendy's I gave it a try. The two guys working behind the counter were friendly and helpful. I ordered my normal latte with an extra shot of espresso and went to sit down. A wide variety of overstuffed chairs and sofas or tables and chairs give you the two options; study or relax. I watched one such relaxer enjoying her drink while knitting by the window. When my order was ready it was brought out to me. Nice presentation, good flavor and a generous portion. I proceeded to return for coffee five more times during summer session and each time I found it consistent in both the coffee and the service. I didn't eat, but I did read the one review about the fact that food is being made fresh, hence the little longer wait. I too find that I'm willing to take the extra time for fresh food. Want fast, then hit the Wendy's because they have items pre-made to speed you on your way. Brewed Awakening, you are what a small coffee shop should be. I can't wait for my next class!

I've have lunch and drinks here a few more times in the past month or so. Every thing has been very tasty. I start to get annoyed when my food isn't ready immediatly, but then I remember that they are actually making the food, it's not already made and waiting to be bagged, then I'm not so annoyed any more. I like how close they are to the hospital, its a quick and easy lunch break and a nice little escape.

First entering this little coffee shop I immediately noticed the perfect environment. The couches and chairs probably found from hours of thrifting, a bookshelf with the selection of an English major (which are also for sale), artwork and flyers for local art events. But then I looked at the menu and saw the prices. Holy shit. This place is expensive. The coffee and blueberry muffin I got were good, but I don't know about 8 dollars good. I'm baffled as to how college kids can afford to come here. I don't have much else to complain about apart from that. The employees were quick, friendly, and well informed. But those prices...I don't know if I'll be coming back.

Went to Brewed Awakenings for lunch today, and loved it. Given that there were not many customers there, and that it was a fairly cold day, only adds to the appreciation of this cozy coffee joint. My turkey pesto sandwich and chicken noodle soup were delicious, and the mochaccino was pretty good. It was a good lunch that felt very much homemade. You can definitely see why why people seem to like this place that much. It's set up to be a cozy hang out with couches, books, games, a friendly staff

Been here several times over my past few visits to Cedar Rapids. Their Beatnik Cappuccino and classic Macchiato are phenomenal. I'm from Seattle and love espresso and I am blown away by the espresso here.
(5)Shelly L.
Brewed Awakenings was the perfect spot to spend an afternoon. I hung out for a few hours and got quite a bit of work done thanks to its comfy atmosphere and free WiFi. The coffee was a-okay. I had an Americano that was a bit too bitter, but their sweets made up for it. A sugar cookies & frosting was an awesome snack mid-way through my day. Staff is awesome and oh-so-friendly. If you're in the area, it's a fine spot to check out.

Brewed Awakenings is a great cozy coffee shop. The prices are great and the staff is friendly. Parking is a little akward at times, but once you feel comfortable there, you will keep coming back.
(5)Anne P.
Cozy, conversational coffeeshop as opposed to contemporary coffeebars. Best espresso in Cedar Rapids. It's next door to a questionable efficiency complex, so make sure you ingest enough caffeine to appear deranged, thus blending in to your environment.
(4)Matt M.
I like this place a lot. I don't drink coffee, so most people should abort this review right now. The drinks are $4 something for a fancy drink like a latte, or $2 something for a phosphate (pop). The place is small, and comfy. The menu is written on a chalkboard behind the counter. Brewed Awakenings has couches, chairs, regular chairs with tables, books, games, and magazines. There is a tiny acoustic piano next to the front door. The place is laid back enough that you can sit down and play some Chopin and nobody will make a big deal out of it.
(4)Jared C.
Super ghetto. I went here with some friends and my car got broken into. Just like every other coffee house in the area, they don't serve any real food, just pastries. Non-coffee drinks are few and far between.
